Where Is God?

Now and again human beings are prompted to ask themselves some of life's truly profound questions. In the quiet darkness of the night, when far off stars twinkle in the vast, majestic sky, or in the cold, hard light of day, when life rushes past like a speeding train, people of all colors, races, and creeds wonder about the meaning of their existence. Why are we here? What does this all mean? Is this all there is?

Prayers: A Special Connection with God

Islam signifies the subjection of all activities in all walks of life to the Law of God Almighty, and leaving nothing to the whims and fancies of anyone else. God has commanded the believers to declare:

[Truly, my prayer, my service of sacrifice, my life, and my death, are (all) for Allah (God), the Cherisher of the Worlds.] (Al-An`am 6:162)

This means that a Muslim is a person who has submitted his or her whole self and whole life to God, so that the first duty of a Muslim is to lead a life of obedience to God alone.

Anger: How to Manage It

Anger is often a corrosive emotion that can drain one's mental and physical health. We often hear the advice that the best way to overcome anger is not to hold it back, but express it freely. But anger doesn't go away just because one unleashes it. On the other hand, it may precipitate disastrous consequences.

Anger has a "feeling aspect" and an "acting aspect". The feeling part of anger can be irritation, frustration, disappointment, and a desire for revenge. The acting part can be a violent outburst or physical assault.

"Anger management" is a modern expression that denotes, not just the control of anger, but the proper channelling of anger along constructive lines as well. That is to say, anger does not always work negatively; it can have a positive aspect as well, if managed properly.

The Power of a Smile

"Well, believe it or not, I owe my being a Muslim today to a simple warm smile", said Stacey, a friend of mine who had just become Muslim a couple of years ago.

Religious Tolerance in Muslim History

Religious intolerance has become too much a part of modern life. It is a fact of life, though, that good people, of whatever faith, do not poke fun or try to insult one another's religion.

On the contrary, we find that real people of faith are keen to get to know each other better and to learn from each other. Goodness, wherever it is to be found, comes from God. Where else would it come from?

Accepting Allah in Our Lives

This is the message of peace, the message of salvation. This is the message of liberation from being enslaved to mundane things that keep shackling souls with worries and sorrows.

This is a call from the One Who controls everything, calling you, humankind, to submit!

Teenagers know no boundaries

When I was growing up if I talked back to my father he would swing back his hand and smack full force across the face. There was just always a line you didn’t cross. As I got older the line blurred slightly but still there is a certain amount of respect you show your parents. Even today I drastically disagree with him but I would never and have never cussed him out to his face. I might have said a few things behind his back while I was in the midst of fury but cussing him out to his face? I just wouldn’t do it. I am curious how teenagers continue to move boundaries where now it almost seems there are none.

I know this might sound shocking but I am made of flesh and blood. I am human. As such I also get angry, get sad, get stressed. I deal with things well and sometimes not the best. It is just our nature. This weekend I happened to be under a lot of stress. I had things going on that were unfortunate and difficult to deal with. Even so, I chose to let my kids participate they best I could in activities that they wanted to. Even though kids don’t always understand what is going on they are perceptive on issues that are occurring.
